My great-great-grandfather, Absalom Autrey was a Tory officer during the Revolutionary War. After the war he moved to Buscomb (sp?) Co., NC ten to Rutherford Co. and ten to AL about 1806 or 7.  Some of Absaloms brothers were officers in the American Army. He was wealthy before the Revolution but lost the most of his property by joining the Tories,

III.       Elijah Autery went to Alabama.

IV.       Hiram Autery b. 1771 in N.C. d. 9-9-l857in DeQueen, Sevier,.A3R m. on 6-17-1806 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, to Polly Fox. They had 8 children, but the only record of the first four children was in Hirams property settlement which stated he had four heirs, address unknown, Listed below are the last four children.

A.        John Autry b. 1822 in Alabama m. ca. 1842 Lucinda --- b. 1822 in SC. This family dropped the e from Autrey. 7 children, all h. in MS, but migrated to

Arkansas where the last 7 settled in Sevier Co. by 1858. By 1859 John and Lucinda had acquired 160 acres of land, but by 12-7-1859 had sold 80 acres to

Jonathan Davis and by 5-18-1859 the remainder to David Mauser. In the 1860 Arkansas Census, Johns family was listed but after 1865 when he was a Road Overseer in Bear Creek they moved to Oklahoma.
