The majority of information extracted from Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, by Lillian Henderson, Dir. Confederate Pension and Record Department, Ga. Dept. of Archives and History, 1939-61. Additional information on 0. 13. Autry , Willis N. Autry , George W. Autry and Jacob P. Autry from my own research into their pension files at the same archive.
The 1790 N.C. U.S. Census {or Autry s and Ottery's does not agree with the eleven children we have assigned to Cornelius Autry . In the first edition only 9 were assigned. The only children of Cornelius, Immigrant, mentioned in Deeds and Land Transactions were Isom, William, John, and Sarah. However, from other sources we have, listed eleven children for Cornelius Autry , Immigrant, and possible--Page, his wife.

Zachariah Aughtry was a surveyor in Pitt County, N.C. on 11-9-1761 when he helped John Spier survey 675 acres for William Osburn.
John Autrey and Ann, wife, sold 100 acres of land to Thomas Downs on 9-10-1773 in Pill County, N.C. This could be Capt. John Autry who sold his land in NC. after going to Georgia in the 1770s. His wife was Elizabeth Ann.
The report from the Fort Worth Genealogical Society that Cornelius Autrey was born Ga. 1720 in Haute Saone Provience, France as reported by Mrs. E. E. Flippo in Vol. 10 of the Autrv Bulletin, cannot be proven at this time. Few people came to NC. from France during this period, and there are no ship records that indicate such. Neither was Cornelius the first Autry to come to North Carolina. Cornelius first record of 1754 was much later than Alex Autrays land grant of 1740. Another error that has appeared in many Autry publications is assigning Theopholus to Cornelius, Immigrant. Theopholus was a grandson of Cornelius, Immigrant, and the son of Cornelius Autry and Sophia Keen, son of Cornelius, Immigrant. We feel satisfied that Cornelius, Immigrant, had eleven children, and this book details his family as best we can. V.M.B. |
