Born in Cumberland County where he resided as a fanner prior to enlisting in Cumberland County at age

28, April 1, 1862. Present or accounted for until wounded at Bermuda Hundred, Virginia, May 20, 1864.

Hospitalized at Petersburg, Virginia, where he died on June 15, 1864 of pyaemia. Page 268.

Autry , John H. Private. Co. II, 50th Regiment NC. Troops.

Enlisted in Harnett County at age 29, April 29, 1862 for the war. Reported present in May-June and November-December, 1862. Also reported present in September-December, 1863. Reported at home on sick furlough of thirty days in January-February, 1864. Reported present in July-August, 1864. Sent to hospital at Summerville, South Carolina, in November-December, 1864. Survived the war. Page 226.

Born in Hamett County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Hamett County at age 35, March

24, 1862. Reported absent sick in May-June, 1862. Reported present in November-December, 1862,

and September, 1863-Februmy, 1864. Also reported present in July-August and November-December,

1864. Hospitalized at Charlotte on February 13, 1865 with debilitas. Furloughed on February 14, 1865.

Born in Cumberland County and was by occupation a fanner prior to enlisting in Cumberland County at age 24, April 23, 1862 for the war. Reported present in May-June, 1862. Died in hospital at Lynchburg, Virginia, December 3, 1862 of typhoid fever. Page 270.

Born in Cumberland County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Cumberland County at age 21, March 28, 1862. Mustered in as Sergeant. Reported present on surviving company master rolls trough October 1863. Captured at Rappahannock Station, Virginia, November 7, 1863. Confined to Point Lookout, Maryland, November11, 1863. Paroled at Point Lookout, Maryland, March 15, 1864. Returned to duty on an unspecified date. Reported present in September-October, 1864, Wounded in left leg at Saylers Creek, Virginia, April 6, 1865. Captured on or about the same date. Left leg amputated. Hospitalized at Washington, D.C. Released at Washington on July 18, 1865, after taking the Oath or Allegiance. Page 270.

On page 217 in The Heritage of Sampson County, North Carolina, the following Autry s are listed with a Civil War record by Virginia I.. Bizzell. I could not find any reference to them in North Carolina Troops 1861-65 A Roster, Vols. I to XIII and in Moores Roster Vols. 1-4.

Autry , Daniel Big Dan. Ps. 2nd Co. A, 5th Cay. Regt. 63. Born 12-20-1833, Sampson Co. No enlist date available. Promoted 26 Apr 1862 to Sgt. Captured 1 Jul 1863 (probably Gettysburg, Pennsylvania) Died 8 Mar 1908.

Autry , James Lindsay. Militia Capt. Sixth Brigade, 25th Regt. Enlisted 26 Aug 1861 as Capt. of Dismal. Enlisted 8Mar 1862 in Fourth Brigade, 2nd Div. 24th Regt. Militia as Capt. of Dismal Militia. Born 22 Mar 1838, Sampson Co. Farmer and turpentine distiller. Invested heavily in bringing a railroad to Sampson County. Did much to establish Autryville. Died 5 Jul 1914. Uncle Jim, my great uncle, never went to war, but headed Company C for Columbus and Sampson Counties of the Second Regiment of The Home Guard, V.M.B.
