MORE SAMPSON COUNTY AUTRY RECORDS 1784 - 1800On the Sampson County Tax list of 1784 are the names of Cornelius, John, Isham, Cornelius and Theopilus Autry (son of Cornelius). William did not appear indicating, no doubt, that he was deceased, but his wife Rachel was listed. Cornelius, Immigrant, did not come to Sampson County. He died in Edgecombe County and is buried there near Autrys Creek. John, William and James Autry appear on the Pitt County tax lists of 1762 and 1763. Cornelius Autry and Theophilus Autry are listed in the Cumberland County taxables of 1815.
In Deed Book B, p. 392 (1763) and Deed Book F, p. 432 (1774) Cornelius Autry deeds land to William Page Autry, his son. This could be a clue that Cornelius Autrys wife was a Page and the mother of the eleven children detailed in this publication. |
