By October 15, 1773, John Autry had moved to Georgia and bought 100 acres on Beaver Dam Creek. His brothers Absalom, Alexander and Jacob went also. Isam Autry of Edgecombe, planter to Thomas Newbern of Bertie Co., 340 acres, Jan. 18, 1774 on south side of Little Swamp, it being the whole of a deed granted to Elias Fort April 13, 1754. (Pitt Co. MORE SAMPSON COUNTY AUTRY RECORDS 1784 - 1800

On the Sampson County Tax list of 1784 are the names of Cornelius, John, Isham, Cornelius and Theopilus Autry (son of Cornelius). William did not appear indicating, no doubt, that he was deceased, but his wife Rachel was listed. Cornelius, Immigrant, did not come to Sampson County. He died in Edgecombe County and is buried there near Autrys Creek.

John, William and James Autry appear on the Pitt County tax lists of 1762 and 1763.

Cornelius Autry and Theophilus Autry are listed in the Cumberland County taxables of 1815.

  • 11-16-1797 Jesse Autry ordered to work on road.

  • 11-16-1797 Deed from Owen McDaniel to Cornelius Autry.

  • 2-11-1798 Cornelius Autry fined 40 shillings for failing to attend court as juryman.

  • 2-12-1798 Daniel Culbreth to be Overseer of road from Little Cohary to Faircloths Bridge on South River, fellow workers and others were Isom Autry, Sterling Autry, Archibald Autry, Newsom Autry, Drewery Autry, Starling Autry, Absolom Autry, Cornelius Autry, John Autry, and Hardy Autry.

  • 2-14-1798 Deed from Matthew Reynolds to Alexander Autry for 100 acres approved by Archibald Culbreth.

  • 2-14-1798 Deed from Cornelius Autry to Archibald McPhail for 100 acres approved.

  • 2-14-1798 Deed from Matthew Reynolds to Alexander Autry for 100 acres proved by Archibald Culbreth.

  • 5-15-1798 Deed from John Autry to Newsom Autry for 50 acres proved by Archibald Culbreth.

  • 8-13-1798 Theophilus Autry, Cornelius Autry, and Archibald Culbreth were appointed to work on road from Richard Williamss to Maxwells Bridge.

  • 5-14-1799 Alexander Autry was ordered to be Overseer of the road in room of Malcolm Peterson.

  • 8-14-1799 Theophilus Autry was appointed to be a juror.

  • 2-11-1800 Absolom Autry ordered Overseer of the road in the room of Allen Faircloth.

  • 2-11-1800 Deed from Samuel Porter to Isom Autry for 100 acres.

In Deed Book B, p. 392 (1763) and Deed Book F, p. 432 (1774) Cornelius Autry deeds land to William Page Autry, his son. This could be a clue that Cornelius Autrys wife was a Page and the mother of the eleven children detailed in this publication.
