OTHER AUTRY LAND TRANSACTIONS IN EDGECOMBE
AND PITT COUNTIES, NORTH CAROLINA

On 6 June 1756 Cornelius Autrey, planter, in Edgecombe County, NC. bought 188 acres of land from Van Swearingeen on the south side of Tar River, joining Awtreys Creek and Cornfield Branch for 10 pounds. Deed Book VI, p. 69. On the same day Cornelius Autry bought another 188 acres from William Wootten on the south side of Tar River joining Swearingeen, the lower prong of Cornfield Branch and Awtreys Creek for 30 pounds Virginia money. Deed Book VI, p. 75.

Since Cornelius Autrey had received land grants prior to 1762 and Awtreys Creek named for him, it is safe to assume that he had received land grants prior to his purchase of land in 1756, maybe before Alex Autrays grant of 1740.
